Canine Spay/Neuter

The Peterson Foundation program covers up to 50% of the cost of a canine spay or neuter procedure for dogs of legal residents in Butler County, PA. A copy of your driver’s license is required for verification of residency. The maximum reimbursement is $200. Limit one voucher per household.

Reimbursement covers ONLY medical expenses directly associated with the spay or neuter surgery (Spay or neuter, rabies vaccine, anesthesia, pain meds, e-collar). Additional services requested by the owner beyond those listed will not be reimbursed.

Dog owners are responsible for choosing a veterinarian, scheduling the spay or neuter procedure, paying the bill, and submitting an itemized receipt to BCHS for reimbursement once the surgery is complete. To qualify, the receipt must include the voucher recipient’s name.

These vouchers are non-transferable and will be tracked by the Butler County Humane Society. These vouchers expire December 15th, 2026. To qualify for reimbursement, surgery must be performed by this date, and the receipt must be submitted by December 31st.

Microchipping & nail trims

Please note that all pets scheduled for a microchip or nail trimming appointment must present a current rabies vaccination certificate. Rabies tags alone are not enough, and we cannot proceed without a valid rabies certificate.

Please visit our Events Calendar or Facebook Page to view upcoming clinic dates!

Microchipping

We microchip cats and dogs. All animals at the Butler County Humane Society are microchipped at the time of adoption.

If you want to microchip a pet at BCHS, the fee is $20.00 per animal, which includes free registration with 24PetWatch.

Microchipping takes the same amount of time as a regular vaccine and feels similar to any other shot. Roughly the size of a grain of rice, the microchip is implanted under your dog or cat’s skin in their upper back. These chips contain a number that, when scanned, can provide the owner’s contact information to animal shelters, dog officers, and veterinary clinics. These chips routinely help lost dogs and cats find their way home, and all BCHS shelter pets are automatically microchipped before adoption.

Nail trims

The Butler County Humane Society also offers nail trims for owned dogs and cats for a fee is $15.00 per animal. You must call and schedule an appointment, which are usually 15 minutes per animal.
